The Birth Story of Violet
I'm one of those crazy women who actually enjoy childbirth and could happily do it everyday. For my second child I was told by every consultant I met that a C-Section was the best choice for me as I'd had 3rd degree tears with my first. To say I was heartbroken is an understatement so I started researching the other options available to me. The way I saw it was I 'might' have another tear or I definitely would with a C-Section so I had to do everything I could to avoid another bad tear. This is when I discovered hypnobirthing...I brought into the concept instantly and my husband really got on board once we'd had our sessions with Miriam. I ended up feeling invincible and completely in control so I went against the medical professionals and opted for a vaginal birth.
On 24th July I was at a BBQ (1 week over due) and started feeling period like pains, I didn't think it was anything but everyone at the BBQ were adamant today was the day. By 5pm (still at the BBQ) they were 10mins apart so my husband and I agreed to go home with my two year old son to do his bath/bedtime together. I was bouncing on the ball in the bathroom whilst assisting with bathtime! It was so lovely to have two hours just the three of us and, even though the contractions were still coming, I remembered Miriam giving the advice of taking 'one at a time' and it worked.
We got my neighbour over to babysit and headed to the hospital. They left me in the waiting room reading my book but after an hour I was struggling to focus on my book so I was examined to find I was 5cm already. I think up until then I was in denial as after that point I can't really remember much. I was front resting on a ball puffing on gas and air with my hubby and best friend rubbing my back. I can't remember moving onto the bed on all fours and apparently I was silent with my eyes closed. I spent 3 hours using the breathing and visualising techniques and being in the zone. The midwife was clearing up my waters that had broken then all of a sudden a head came, then the body. I didn't even know I was pushing (neither did my birth partners or the midwife) so it was a bit of a surprise for everyone. It was like an out of body experience - so calm and surreal. I was so overjoyed to not only receive a beautiful baby girl but with only a few grazes and being offered to go home after only 3 hours.....I left the delivery suite saying 'see you in 2018 ladies for number 3!'
Thank you to Miriam for giving me everything I've ever wanted and more.
