Mama Tribe Essentials: Anna
Over a sneaky glass of red wine, and while our children redecorated the walls with their lunch, Anna shared with me her Mama Tribe Essentials - the things that keep this Mama energised, and allow her some essentials 'me time'. Anna and her husband, Nathaniel, were one of the first couples I taught after I gained my Diploma in Hypnobirthing with KG Hypnobirthing. My next ask for Anna is for her to share her birth story here. She has shared it at the first ever Reigate and Redhill Positive Birth Movement and now, at almost every meet up, someone else mentions it because it's super inspiring! Anna and I have been firm friends ever since and she's definitely at the centre of my Mama Tribe!
Mac Lipstick, colour: Fawn
No matter how rubbish I'm feeling through lack of sleep or pure exhaustion, this lipstick can boost my confidence and make me look and feel that little bit more glamorous! My husband bought me three of the same colour for my Christmas stocking so he clearly thinks it works wonders too!
I can't live without flowers in my home. I always pick up a bunch when I'm shopping in Reigate. A few pounds for a small bunch of daffodils and my spirits are lifted! I'll sometimes treat myself and visit Greensleeves in Redhill or Williows of Reigate. Some simple but beautiful flowers just add a bit of colour and life to my home...especially when I'm surrounded my plastic toys, nappies, washing up and piles of ironing!
I love a colourful scarf to add a bit of glamour to my wardrobe. With two young babies, I just have to throw on whatever I can find in the morning, which means I'm in black or grey a lot of the time. But just throwing on a colourful scarf can lift any outfit, and my frame of mind! I have lots of beautiful scarfs from Accessorize and I'm always on the look out for more to add to my collection. I have my eye on a few in Gerrards in Reigate at the moment, too!
A Mama on the go always needs to carry snacks, not just for those tantrum moments with the mini-mes, but for a quick-fix energy boost for me too. Before I found these little balls of magic, I found I was snacking on lots of sweet things that were great to fight off hunger but only for a short time. I felt sluggish and not particularly healthy. Then I found these - they're small enough to fit in your handbag or change bag, and they have lots of yummy flavours to choose from. My favourite at the moment is the Spirulina and Ginseng - high in antioxidant vitamin E. Yum!
I'm going to be honest, this is definitely one of those things I can't live without. Now and again I love to pour myself a G&T once the children have gone to bed. I can switch off and have some important 'me-time'. God knows, us Mamas all deserve it! And it doesn't matter if it's a Friday night or a Monday night because, let's face it, us Mamas have a 24/7, seven days a week job!
I can't wait to try some gin from Gin Kitchen, set up at the end of 2016 by two ladies from Dorking, Surrey.
Baby-led Weaning Cookbook, by Gill Rapley & Tracey Murkett
I've never been into cooking, but when my two little people came along I became really interested in choosing healthy and nutritious food for them. A friend leant me this book when I was weaning my second baby and I absolutely love it. It's full of easy, varied and healthy recipes that both my children enjoy....and my husband and I do too, so it's a winner and makes my life so much easier when planning meals. Don't get me wrong though, I still have a very impressive stash of fish fingers in the freezer for those days when I simply can't be bothered!
I know I look like a bit of an alcoholic (!), but 'me time' and unwinding is so so important as a Mama. My husband and I like nothing more than enjoying a glass of red together over dinner. It's our excuse to stop and focus on one another for a couple of hours (sometimes you need reminding!). I love shopping at the Vineking in Reigate. The owner is super friendly and really knows his wines. You're guaranteed to go home with something delicious!
